this kitchen has brown, rusted tiles. a soft corner that holds the refrigerator: at 2 am, its doors leak mist and glow like a giant firefly settled in the middle of the room. the microwave is dizzy: the hot chocolate mug keeps dancing in circles for 30 seconds.
the white edges melt into glaze - a winter that did not last a lifetime: un-roasted marshmallows are weak. outside the window, a nameless bird flutters for company: the hot chocolate cools on the window sill. the page of this diary is a demoted version of sandpaper: a texture rubbing off the palms, scratchy surface making love to the nib of a red fountain pen. the moon is singing lullabies to closeted queers: the ones who are sitting on the fire exit with a mug of hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows confronting their exiled realities.
