The bodies between us, by Annelise Edwards-Daem

Struck in the face

by your soft hand.

The taste

of regret

on my tongue.

I crawl back

to the bed that

tore me apart.

Gathering kisses,

like bruises

on a playground.

Stones cracking

my spine

on the slide.

Worms crawling

up my throat

on the swing.

Sinking further

into

my bottomless grave.

Annelise Edwards-Daem will be starting her PhD in October at Nottingham Trent University, where she also received her MRes in English Literary Research and BA in English with Creative Writing. Her poetry has been published in the student magazine, Working Title, and Nottingham Poetry Exchange’s anthology, Voices.
